Why multilateralism is losing ground in audiovisual services in the WTO

Trade in audiovisual services is both aimed at economic purposes and impacts social values of host countries. That why this sphere has traditionally been one the most difficult issues World Organization (WTO) negotiations an area opposed approaches US EU. The author demonstrates that measures related to cultural policy can inherently shape protectionist trade barriers for support national companies. Rapid development technology expanded possibilities transmission distribution audio visual content. At same time, existing multilateral rules as well applied classification are becoming increasingly irrelevant. article concludes that, on hand, growing market requires more precise its cross-border trade, other trend towards formation regional blocks with specific regulations complicates (or even common understanding) under WTO.
